WE ARE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND

"WE ARE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND"

REFLECTIONS Column, as printed in the Erie Times News

The song, "Always On My Mind", though recorded by Brenda Lee in 1972, and then again by Elvis Presley in 1973, did not become famous until it was released by Willie Nelson in the spring of 1982. In this song, Nelson looks back on a relationship that had turned sour due to his negligence. He tells how he wished he had done some things differently, but he says over and over again, "You Were Always On My Mind".

The Bible tells us that all who will be saved were chosen by God before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4) In other words, THEY WERE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND! There has not been a time in the history of the world that God has not had His people on His mind. Every decision He ever made--every action He ever caused--was made with His people in mind!

When He expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden, we were on His mind.

When He saved Noah and his family from the flood, we were on His mind.

When he destroyed the Tower of Babel, and dispersed the people, we were on His mind.

When He chose Abraham as the father of His covenant people, we were on His mind.

When He spared Isaac on the altar of sacrifice, we were on His mind.

When He chose Jacob over Esau, we were on His mind.

When He sent Joseph down to Egypt as a slave, we were on His mind.

When He raised up Moses as His deliverer, we were on His mind.

When he created the sacrifical system to make atonement for man's sins, we were on His mind.

When he gave His people the land of Canaan, we were on His mind.

When He raised up David to rule as king over Isreal, we were on His mind.

When He chastised His people in the Babylonian captivity, so as to extract a remnant for Himself, we were on His mind.

When He sent forth His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God--the Seed of Abraham--and Savior of the world, we were on His mind.

WE WERE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND!

Though for some of us there were many years where HE was not on OUR mind, WE WERE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND! The message of salvation is not about you seeking God--but about God seeking you!

Psalm 40:5 -"Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered."

WE WERE ALWAYS ON HIS MIND!
